F. A. Q.

We are 20 minutes from Breckenridge, 25 from Frisco, and 35 from Keystone/Dillon. Please follow our directions carefully since our trips start on time. DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS! They are inaccurate in this area.
No, we do not but while our road is gravel you do not need a high clearance nor 4×4 vehicle to get to us.
We ask folks arrive 10-15 minutes before their tour to allow for the check in process. Please note our tours often have multiple groups and will start on time! We require a signed liability waiver for each participant.
Our minimum age to enter the kennel is 3 years old, our minimum age for our scooter tour is 16
No, advanced reservations are required to enter any part of the facility. We do offer just a tour of the kennel.
Yes, our dogs are very social and our tours are very hands on. We do start each tour with a brief safety orientation before allowing our guests to interact with the sled dogs. (Our diggler tour has the least amount of time in the kennel, most is spent out on trail)
We breed specifically and very responsibly so it depends on the time of year what age our litters are.
Our facility is completely outside so come prepared with weather appropriate clothing. Long pants and closed toe shoes are best. Come expecting to get dirty. Don’t forget the water, sunscreen, camera and extra cash for t shirts and a guide gratuity if you had a great trip.
Our kennel tour is our least active but it is a walking tour of the kennel. Our cart tour travels on old mining roads and can fast and bumpy but by no means extreme. Our scooter tour requires a high level of physical participation. We can accommodate special needs with advanced notice.
While we can almost always accommodate folks on a kennel tour, our carts maxes out at 7 guests an hour.
The earlier you call us before your trip, the more time and tour options we will have available. Our busiest weeks are from July 4th to August 25th. During that time we recommend at least 72 hours notice. While we can on occasion take same day reservations, however we cannot take walk ins.
We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel your trip inside that window, you will be responsible for 50% of your trip unless we can re sell your spots. No shows will be charged the balance of your reservation.
Our tours run rain or shine, unless your guide deems it unsafe to run the tour due to adverse conditions. While rain is common it is rare that we cannot run a tour. We have a limited amount of umbrellas and have plastic ponchos for purchase. We recommend coming prepared with rain gear.
We require and adult to accompany any children under 14 however a parent or guardian must be present to sign the liability waiver for any minor.
Our kennel tour is appropriate for anyone over 3, our cart tour is very safe but may be too adventurous for anyone with a pre existing back injury. Our diggler tour is a HIGH ADVENTURE tour requiring lots of physical activity, PLEASE speak with one of our reservations about the dangers involved before booking. There is a high risk of falling and injury on this trip.

Testimonials

  • We had the best time visiting Snow Caps. We started in the morning with the snow mobiling and that afternoon we did the dog sledding. The kids had a blast as well as we did. We ended up adopting Collene one of the retired sled dogs. She is a Angel, and
loves our other husky. Anyone that goes here will have a blast!! The guides are really great and know what they are doing. We can’t wait to go back there. Thank you Snow Caps for the BEST springbreak vacation ever!!

  • We visited Snow Caps last summer (August ’09) and had the time of our lives! We didn’t anticipate leaving with such a large souvenir, but are so glad that we did! We adopted Sea Breeze one of the retirees. He has been an amazing addition to our home. He
still loves to pull and gets lots of exercise and bike rides to do so. Everyone we come across loves and adores him…and thinks he’s a puppy, not a (nearly) 10 year old! He’s been an absolute dream! We’ve told everyone we come across about Snow Caps. We cannot
speak highly enough of the staff and all the pups! We’d love (and intend) to visit again sometime in the near future!

  • Our family had a blast visiting Snow Caps and doing the tour over the 4th of July weekend. The drive over from Breckenridge was filled with great mountain scenery. Sarah was awesome at introducing us to the many wonderful dogs and telling us about their
different roles pulling the sleds as well as their individual stories and personalities. Our 10 yr old has special needs and just loved being able to hold the huskie puppies on her lap. Thank you again for a great time and we highly recommend a visit to Snow
    Caps!

  • My family and I had a great visit to Snow Caps today! Got to meet most of the dogs and hold some 5-week old puppies! The experience and our guide were great, and we highly recommend paying a visit.

  • My husband and I visited Snow Caps Aug 18, 2010 and we had a really good time! I was excited to see that we could have a “summer mush” with the dogs!! All the dogs were beautiful, friendly and the puppies were so adorable and sweet. Blake was very knowledgeable
and answered all our questions (and patient with the two kids in the other group) Blake seemed to truly love working with all the dogs. I liked that there were only 4 others there at the time so we could really get some one on one time with the dogs and our
guide. I wish I could remember all the dogs’ names to go with my pictures! lol I had a great time and for the rest of my trip to Breckenridge I wanted to go back to see the puppies! I will definitely return to see the dogs and puppies the next time we are
in the area. I was happy to see someone else love dogs (animals) as much as I do. Thank you so much! Great thing you have going!

  • Best Christmas present for my daughter and her 4 cousins up at Skytop, PA: a tour of the sled dog kennel and a ride with a 10 dog team, complete with a fantastic bald eagle sighting and beautiful view of Skytop Lodge in the sunset as Jared commanded “Haw”
and we headed back to the kennel. The huskies were great, comfortable with the kids going around hugging them, and loving them. Thanks SnowCaps at Skytop, PA -Aunt Amy

  • We came and sledded today and had a fantastic time. The check in process was simple and all the staff friendly. Our guide, Valerie was fantastic. We met all the dogs, and Valerie gave easy to follow instructions. Lots of pictures with the dogs and we were
off. With only six people per sled, each of us got to drive the sled two times in a ride that took well over an hour. We regularly stopped for pictures and Valerie answered all our questions. The whole experience exceeded our expectations. Well done!

  • Dog sledding was the highlight of my trip! I was traveling by myself for work but felt very welcomed by my group and the staff. Our guide, Dave, was fun and knowledgable, and it was obvious that he loves his job and the dogs! He accomodated everyone on
our trip, from me (who wanted an adrenaline rush and a challenge!) to a young 10 year old gal, and we all had a blast! I would recommend Snow Caps to anyone who wants to do something unique and fun on their vacation and experience some really beautiful scenery.
I look forward to my next trip out to visit! Thanks Dave and Snow Caps and all the beautiful huskies for a great time!

  • We had a fantastic adventure this morning with our guide Valerie and her team of 4 legged friends! It was a blast! We will most defiantly be back with more friends and family. If you’re visiting Summit County this should be on your list of adventures!!

  • We had the best time snowmobiling and Dog Sledding. Both of our guides were great. Special thanks to Brown, he was the BEST! I still cannot believe that we were not the worst he ever had taken sledding. Thanks to him for putting up with us and all the
tuck and rolls. The dogs were great also. I wish I could have adopted one, but TOO hot in Georgia for them. Again, thank you Brown and your sled team for putting up with us southern women. We had a blast, have not laughed that in a long time!

  • Snowcaps is one of the most amazing experiences we’ve had on a vacation, ever. I’ve been to many places, but have never experienced such a warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere. The dogs are truly amazing as well as the fine people that work there. You
can tell they truly love these dogs and they are part of their family. Blake was an awesome host! Thank you for the time to educate and entertain our family on our summer vacation to the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We will be back!

  • I’ve been on 2 dogsled rides at snow caps and subsequently, adopted 2 dogs from them. The dogsled rides were a lot of fun and everyone was super friendly! We adopted a puppy from snow caps 2 1/2 years ago and she is AMAZING! She has a ton of energy for running around outside with us, but loves to curl up on the couch and be petted most of all. We also adopted a 7 1/2 year old dog about 7 months ago and he is the sweetest most loving dog ever. All he wants to do is be petted by everyone he meets. His favorite thing is laying down in his tiny bed (he’s about 67lbs) and sleeping near us. Whenever I contact snow caps for anything, whether it be to schedule a dog sled ride or with questions about our dogs, they are always extremely helpful and nice to work with. Thanks so much for everything!
